Join Mississippi Records (US) for an evening of music and film from the label's vaults. This live presentation with label head Cyrus Moussavi explores the role of chance and luck in the preservation and re-circulation of great art. Featuring the music of Abner Jay, Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru, and Brother Theotis Taylor, we celebrate the radical possibilities of rebuilding independent archives for our communities and within ourselves.

Cyrus Moussavi, head of record label Mississippi Records, has spent the past decade documenting underground music scenes around the world. He will present rare footage, unheard music from the record label's basement, and discuss the process and challenges of preserving and releasing music on vinyl to the public. Starts at 13.00. Ethiopian pianist Emahoy's touching piano pieces have gripped people around the world since they were recorded in the 70s. During this tribute evening, we put her works in the hands of today's and future's musicians and composers.
Live music with three short sets by:
The Finnish-Swedish composer and pianist Iiris Viljanen, through her honest and peculiar expression, has achieved success with everything from her Grammy-winning album "The Little Mermaid" to a role in the theater production "Det vilda" at the Orion Theater in Sthlm, and this evening she will do a shorter tribute set there she freely interprets Emahoy's compositions on the keyboard.
On keyboards, Shida Shahabi, currently recording, will also do a tribute set. She visited the Uppsala Art Museum for a concert in 2023 and will do a concert with PJ Harvey in the UK in 2024.
Swedish-Estonian composer and performer Tuulikki Bartosik, recognized for her hypnotic minimalistism and neoclassical expression, makes her accordion tribute set.
