B2B Dead Moon - Going South (Live in New Zealand 1992) Limited Edition 2xLP

$21.00

We have a handful of this VERY limited Dead Moon live record, recorded in New Zealand in 1992. It's from the band's first tour outside the USA. They were offered a gig opening for Nirvana on their Smells LIke Teen Spirit tour after already agreeing to do this tour of small bars in NZ. Of course, they turned Nirvana down and never looked back.

The record was produced by New Zealand's own John Baker, who was their tour manager down there. John originally planned to put it out on his own label. He pressed up 600 copies of the vinyl back in 2018 here in Portland and had me pick it up at the plant. I stacked the records in my closet and waited excitedly for the covers so I could distribute them for him. A series of calamities befell John and the covers had to take a back seat to more pressing matters. Months passed and then a pandemic and then before we blinked, those records were in my closet for almost four years!

John finally wrote me a couple months ago and said, "hey, why don't you just buy that vinyl from me, make your own cover and you can do the USA release and I'll make a limited version for NZ." I scrambled together a quick cover with our pal Fiona (who designs the Mississippi newsletters) and ran it up to Toody. She did not like the initial design, which featured ghostly X Ray versions of the band.  We scrambled together a second cover in record time, just like Fred did on Dead Moon covers of days past. Toody dug it. Phew.

The band is at its most savage here. I'd dare say it's easily their best live recording. It aged well in my closet over the past 4 years.
